(Colin Firth)

“It’s with a feeling of nausea that I read what was going on while I was benefiting from Harvey Weinstein’s support. He was a powerful and frightening man to stand up to. It must have been terrifying for these women to step up and call him out. And horrifying to be subjected to that kind of harassment. I applaud their courage.”

(Hillary Clinton)

“I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein. The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior.”

(Leonardo DiCaprio)

“There is no excuse for sexual harassment or sexual assault – no matter who you are and no matter what profession. I applaud the strength and courage of the women who came forward and made their voices heard.”

(George Clooney)

“It’s indefensible. That’s the only word you can start with. Harvey’s admitted to it, and it’s indefensible.”

(Kate Winslet)

“The way Harvey Weinstein has treated these vulnerable, talented young women is not the way women should ever ever deem to be acceptable or commonplace in any workplace.”

Time magazine has named “The Silence Breakers” as its 2017 Person of the Year, recognizing the women (and some men) who came forward with stories of sexual harassment and assault.

The magazine calls them “the voices that launched a movement.”

A wave of survivors came forward, some telling wrenching stories of abuse, harassment and rape in public for the first time.

The hashtag succeeded in showing the world the volume of the problem.

“Me Too” had been the mantra of a decade-old fight against sexual abuse before it became a hashtag, and was originally conceived by a woman of color.

These silence breakers have started a revolution of refusal, gathering strength by the day.
